About
Simon Proctor: DOB 04.02.1961
After playing rugby and the odd bit of road running in my younger years, I started competing in Triathlon in 1989 at the age of 28 and joined the BTA the same year (No.298) - in those days the BTA was basically Ian Pettit on his own!
I raced locally around the South East for the first year and then in 1990 a certain Mr John Lunt (Human Race) devised an event called the Tuffman. This consisted of the Ironman distance bike on the Saturday morning and the 3.8km swim in Kingston pool in the evening. On the Sunday we ran the marathon around the towpaths of Kingston and Hampton.
Once I had completed that first Tuffman race I was hooked on the longer triathlon races.
In 1991 I raced abroad for the first time at the Nice Triathlon and the experience was fantastic.
Over the last 19 years I have completed the following events
Nice Triathlon
Roth Ironman (Germany)
Almere Triathlon Holland (Ironman distance)
London Marathon x 5
World Trail Running Championships (80miles)
Switzerland Ironman
ITU World Long Course Denmark (Ironman distance)
Lanzarote Ironman
ITU World Long Course Nice
Austria Ironman x 2
ITU World Long Course Ibiza
New Zealand Ironman
ITU World Long Course Sweden
Ironman France (Nice)
ITU World Long Course Denmark
ETU Long Course Holland
Alp d'huez triathlon..long course
In 2006 I travelled to Germany to watch some fellow
Tonbridge Tri members compete in the Ironman.
This was my first Ironman as a spectator.
It was at this event, whilst assisting with the re-building
and dismantling of bikes for friends and hearing the
tales of woe regarding the bike check-in fiascos at the airport, added to my own experiences over the years that the idea of the bike transfer service was born.
